Students may take longer to complete these requirements as necessary. Students will complete two quarters of general education courses and CAH 110 Intro to MLT with a “C- “or higher prior to being eligible to enroll in the Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) coursework. Upon successful completion of the program students are eligible to sit for national certification examinations such as the American Society of Clinical Pathology (ASCP) Board of Certification Exam (BOC), American Medical Technology (AMT) exam and American Association of Bioanalysts (AAB). Students may be required to perform rotations on evening shifts. This prepares individuals to work in any clinical laboratory in the country. This prepares students for the final three clinical courses where, either during an on-site simulated lab or off-site rotation in a clinical laboratory, the students achieve entry-level competency in routine testing in all areas of the clinical laboratory. The MLT courses consist of lectures and laboratories designed to train students in application of knowledge and performance of routine laboratory testing. The associate of applied technology (AAT) degree can be completed in seven quarters and consists of two quarters of general education courses and five quarters of MLT specific courses. The program produces graduates who, at entry level, will possess the entry level competencies necessary to perform routine clinical laboratory tests in areas such as Clinical Chemistry, Hematology/Hemostasis, Immunology, Immunohematology/Transfusion medicine, Microbiology, Urine and Body Fluid Analysis, and Laboratory Operations. The MLT program at Clover Park Technical College is nationally accredited by the National Accrediting Agency for Clinical Laboratory Science (NAACLS). Medical Laboratory Technicians (MLT) play a crucial role in the diagnosis, treatment and monitoring of diseases and conditions in patients. Why Choose the Medical Laboratory Technician Program?
